Tesla Offers Free Trial of Full Self-Driving

Prepare to buckle up and get ready for an electrifying ride, as Tesla just dropped a bombshell announcement that’s set to revolutionize the driving experience across the United States. Starting later this week, every Tesla owner in the US will be treated to a complimentary one-month trial of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software.

This groundbreaking move comes hand in hand with the long-awaited rollout of FSD Beta v12, a software update hailed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk as nothing short of “mind-blowing.” While the update had been eagerly anticipated, its release had been delayed several months, a common theme with Tesla’s cutting-edge updates.

So, what’s the buzz all about? FSD Beta v12 introduces significant backend enhancements to Tesla’s learning algorithm, now leveraging "end-to-end neural nets." In simpler terms, your Tesla will be making decisions based on deep learning from an extensive pool of driving data, rather than relying solely on pre-coded logic by programmers.

However, before you start dreaming of kicking back and letting your car do all the work, it's essential to note that FSD is currently classified as a "Level 2" system. This means that while the software can assist with driving tasks, the driver remains ultimately responsible for the vehicle's operation. So, yes, you still need to keep your eyes on the road.

Despite its high price tag of $12,000 (a reduction from its earlier $15,000 cost), FSD adoption rates have been relatively low. In response, Tesla introduced a subscription model priced at $199 per month, but even this failed to significantly boost uptake. Previous promotions, including temporary trials and end-of-quarter incentives, also fell short of driving widespread adoption.

In a bid to showcase the capabilities of FSD and encourage more drivers to embrace this advanced technology, Tesla is pulling out all the stops. Musk has instructed Tesla employees to provide demo drives of FSD to every newly-delivered Tesla, even amidst the end-of-quarter delivery rush.

Moreover, every current owner of FSD-capable vehicles will receive a complimentary one-month trial of FSD, starting this week. This move is part of Tesla’s strategy to boost FSD uptake amid increasing competition in the electric vehicle market.

Tesla's decision to offer this trial comes at a crucial time as the company faces challenges in international markets and adjusts its pricing strategy to stay competitive. The mandate to showcase FSD reflects Musk's determination to drive up sales and revenue, even if it means sacrificing short-term profits.
