Video: Alpine A290 Electric Hot Hatch Tested in Extreme Swedish Conditions

The Alpine A290, a future full-electric hot hatch sport car, is currently testing in extreme weather conditions near the Arctic Circle in Sweden. The prototypes are subjected to full-scale tests to ensure the required performance levels are achieved. Alpine's technical teams focus on dynamic performance, engine responsiveness, brio, driving precision, and agility to deliver a driving experience that extends to extreme conditions. A wide range of equipment is also being tested, including heating, defogging and defrosting quality, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) on snow.

The A290's first official outing featured Alpine's original camouflage, the 'A-Arrow' logo on the roof, and the Alpine Blue colour scheme. It was presented with its definitive bodywork and validated dimensions. The A290 also unveiled an exclusive Alpine sport steering wheel in Nappa leather, featuring three essential functions borrowed from Alpine's Formula 1 steering wheels: OV (Overtake), RCH (Recharge), and Drive modes with one-touch access.

For these tests, the A290 is fitted with high-performance MICHELIN Pilot Alpin 5 tyres to measure and control braking and driving precision in severe winter conditions. Alpine and Michelin have strengthened their partnership for tyre development for the all-electric Alpine range since 2012 with the A110. The A290 will be fitted with specific 19-inch tyres, including a MICHELIN Pilot Alpin 5 winter tyre and two sport summer tyres: MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV for optimized energy efficiency and MICHELIN Pilot Sport S5, the highest performance level. Each tyre will feature an exclusive marking based on the coding system for each Alpine model, with "A29" for the A290.
