Tesla is recalling almost 200,000 vehicles in the United States owing to a possible software flaw that might cause the backup camera to fail when the vehicle is in reverse.
The recall applies to select 2023 Y, S, and X models equipped with "Full Self-Driving" computer 4.0 and software versions 2023.44.30 through 2023.44.30.6 or 2023.44.100.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, software instability may prevent the camera picture from displaying while the Teslas are in reverse, increasing the chance of an accident. Tesla is not aware of any crashes or injuries as a result of the issue, which has been resolved through an online software update. Owners will be notified via mail beginning March 22. Tesla has experienced similar concerns in the past, recalling over 2 million vehicles in December to fix a flaw in its Autopilot system.
