Hyundai INSTER: An All-Electric Evolution in Sub-Compact Urban Mobility

An exciting revelation at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show, Hyundai Motor Company has introduced the all-electric INSTER, marking a significant leap in the A-segment sub-compact urban EV category. This new model brings together innovative design, advanced technology, and impressive range, redefining expectations for sub-compact electric vehicles.

A Unique Design with Versatility

The Hyundai INSTER stands out with its bold and futuristic design, offering a spacious interior within a compact SUV framework. Its robust exterior features strong fenders, a high-tech circuit board-style bumper, and a distinctive skid plate. The INSTER’s exterior is further accentuated by its LED daytime running lights, pixel-graphic turn signals, and tail lamps. Customers can choose from various wheel options and two-tone exterior color combinations, enhancing the vehicle’s personalization potential.

Inside, the INSTER offers a blend of advanced technology and versatile design. It features a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a matching infotainment touchscreen, and a wireless charging dock integrated into a compact center console. The pixel theme continues inside, adding a high-tech touch to the steering wheel and customizable interior trims. The interior is designed for flexibility, with foldable seats, a front bench seat option, and sliding and reclining second-row seats, all contributing to an adaptable and spacious environment.

Exceptional Electric Performance

The INSTER excels in its electric capabilities, equipped with a choice of a standard 42 kWh battery or an optional Long-Range 49 kWh battery. Both versions feature a single motor, offering 97 PS and 115 PS respectively, with a segment-leading range of up to 355 km (WLTP) for the Long-Range model. This makes the INSTER a top contender in efficiency and driving range within its segment.

The motor specifications of the Hyundai INSTER are designed to deliver a seamless and powerful driving experience. The base model’s motor generates 71.1 kW (97 PS) and 147 Nm of torque, enabling smooth acceleration and agile city driving. The Long-Range variant's motor boosts power to 84.5 kW (115 PS), maintaining the same torque but providing enhanced performance, particularly for longer journeys and highway driving. Both motors are geared to ensure optimal energy efficiency and driving comfort.

Charging efficiency is another highlight, with the INSTER capable of reaching 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes using a 120 kW DC High-Power charging station. The vehicle also comes with an 11 kW on-board charger as standard and offers external and internal Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing bi-directional charging for external devices.

Advanced Safety and Technology Features

Hyundai has packed the INSTER with cutting-edge safety and driver assistance technologies. The vehicle includes a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, featuring systems like Surround View Monitor, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-spot View Monitor, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, and more. These features ensure that the INSTER provides a safe, convenient, and enjoyable driving experience.

Global Launch and Future Expansion

Set to launch initially in Korea this summer, the Hyundai INSTER will soon be available in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. Hyundai plans to expand the INSTER family with the addition of the INSTER CROSS, a variant designed with a rugged, outdoor-focused aesthetic. This expansion highlights Hyundai's commitment to providing versatile and advanced electric vehicles tailored to diverse market needs.
