Subaru Motorsports USA Debuts the 2024 WRX Project Midnight: The Quickest and Fastest WRX Ever

Subaru Motorsports USA has taken the automotive world by storm with the unveiling of the highly anticipated 2024 WRX Project Midnight. This special edition of the renowned WRX line brings a blend of innovative engineering, sleek design, and advanced technology that promises to redefine the driving experience for enthusiasts and casual drivers alike.

A Bold New Look

The 2024 WRX Project Midnight stands out with its unique aesthetic, featuring a striking Midnight Black exterior that exudes a sense of mystery and sophistication. Complementing the dark theme are matte black 19-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out badging, and subtle carbon fiber accents, all of which contribute to a cohesive and aggressive look. The design is further enhanced by aerodynamic enhancements, including a prominent rear spoiler and side skirts, ensuring that this WRX not only looks fast but performs with precision.

Project Midnight features ultra-wide aerodynamic bodywork and a radically enlarged version of the wing found on the team’s WRX ARA24 gravel rally car. The carbon fiber body and a significantly lightened chassis give it a curb weight of well under 2,500 pounds – nearly 300 pounds lighter than the Airslayer and 1,000 pounds lighter than a standard WRX! Project Midnight uses specially derived tarmac suspension geometry and swaps Airslayer’s 17-inch rallycross wheel and tire package in favor of 18x11-inch OZ Racing Superturismo LMP magnesium wheels and 280/650R18 Yokohama ADVAN slicks.

Performance at Its Core

Under the hood, the WRX Project Midnight boasts a turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-liter flat-four engine that produces an astonishing 670 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque. This powerhouse revs to 9,500 rpm, spitting flames from its hood-exit exhaust. The powerplant is the most recent and top-performing evolution of Subaru Motorsports USA’s highly successful rallycross engine that helped Scott Speed earn Subaru the Nitro Rallycross Teams Championship in 2021.

This high-performance engine is paired with a refined six-speed manual transmission, allowing drivers to fully engage with the vehicle's dynamic capabilities. Subaru's renowned Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system ensures optimal traction and control, making the Project Midnight adept at handling various driving conditions, from winding mountain roads to urban streets.

Advanced Technology and Features

Inside the cabin, the WRX Project Midnight is equipped with the latest in automotive technology. The centerpiece is a high-resolution 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system that provides seamless access to navigation, entertainment, and vehicle settings. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility come standard, ensuring that drivers stay connected while on the go. Additionally, a premium Harman Kardon sound system delivers crystal-clear audio, making every drive an immersive experience.

Safety remains a top priority for Subaru, and the WRX Project Midnight is no exception. The vehicle comes with Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and pre-collision braking. These features work in harmony to provide an extra layer of protection and peace of mind for both the driver and passengers.

Exclusivity and Availability

The WRX Project Midnight is a limited-edition model, with Subaru planning to produce only a select number of units to maintain its exclusivity. This ensures that each vehicle remains a rare gem on the road, coveted by collectors and driving enthusiasts. Pricing details and specific availability will be announced closer to the release date, but interested buyers are encouraged to contact their local Subaru dealerships for more information and to secure their place in line.
