Audi Q4 E-Tron Gains Entry-Level Trim with Steel Wheels and Smaller Battery

Audi has taken a significant step to make its electric vehicles more accessible by introducing a new entry-level variant of the Q4 e-tron in Europe. Known as the Q4 35 e-tron, this model comes with a smaller 55 kWh battery, reduced range, and more affordable pricing, appealing to a broader audience looking to enter the electric vehicle market.

Enhanced Affordability and Specifications

Priced at €45,600 in Germany, the Q4 35 e-tron is €7,350 cheaper than the Q4 45 e-tron. This substantial cost reduction is achieved by incorporating a smaller battery and offering slightly reduced performance specifications. The 55 kWh battery provides a range of 221 miles (355 km) for the crossover version and 227 miles (365 km) for the sportback variant.

The Q4 35 e-tron is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that delivers 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque. This setup allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in a modest nine seconds and reach a top speed of 99 mph (160 km/h).

Performance Comparison with Q4 45 e-tron

In contrast, the Q4 45 e-tron, which remains a higher-end option within the lineup, features an 82 kWh battery. This more powerful model produces 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) and 402 lb-ft (545 Nm) of torque, enabling it to accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 6.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h).

Charging Capabilities and Features

Despite its smaller battery, the Q4 35 e-tron supports DC fast charging at 145 kW, slightly lower than the 175 kW capacity of the Q4 45 e-tron. Nonetheless, the Q4 35 e-tron can still charge from 10% to 80% in just 25 minutes, ensuring quick and convenient charging during long trips.

Standard features for this entry-level model include LED headlights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated fabric front seats, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The vehicle also features 19-inch steel wheels with stylized covers and practical plastic body cladding, giving it a rugged yet refined look.

Advanced Connectivity and Navigation

Audi has equipped the Q4 35 e-tron with an integrated app store, allowing access to popular third-party apps such as Spotify and Audible without requiring a smartphone. This feature, along with regular updates, ensures that the vehicle stays current with the latest digital services. Additionally, a comprehensive navigation update allows for more precise planning of charging stops, enabling drivers to select specific charging stations and set desired battery charge levels for their destinations.

Voice Control with ChatGPT Integration

One of the standout features of the Q4 35 e-tron is the integration of ChatGPT into the vehicle’s online voice input system. This advanced voice control technology allows drivers to manage infotainment, navigation, and climate control using natural language commands, enhancing the driving experience by providing a safer and more convenient way to interact with the vehicle’s systems.
