Rivian has revealed the second-generation R1S SUV and R1T pickup, emphasizing enhancements in performance, technology, and design while maintaining their distinct aesthetic.

Performance and Power

The updated R1 platform offers two powertrain options:

  • Tri-Motor Configuration: Features 700 horsepower, with a 0-60 mph time of approximately 3.5 seconds.
  • Quad-Motor Configuration: Delivers a stunning 1,025 horsepower, enabling a 0-60 mph sprint in under 2.5 seconds.

These powertrains come with improved battery packs that extend the range up to 420 miles. Additionally, the vehicles support rapid charging, enabling a 200-mile range with just a 20-minute charge at a fast-charging station.

Advanced Electrical Architecture

The second-generation R1 vehicles are built on a new electrical architecture that reduces the number of electronic control units (ECUs) by 70%, streamlining operations and increasing efficiency. This new system underpins several advanced features:

  • Rivian Autonomy Platform: Integrates 11 cameras, five radars, and advanced AI for robust autonomous driving capabilities.
  • Rivian Autonomy Platform+: An upgraded version offering features like Lane Change on Command, Enhanced Highway Assist, and automated parking.

Interior and User Experience

The interiors of the new R1S and R1T are designed with premium materials and advanced technology to enhance comfort and connectivity:

  • Digital Car Keys: Available through Apple Wallet and select Google Pixel devices for convenience.
  • Custom Rivian Sound System: Incorporates Dolby Atmos for an immersive audio experience.
  • Connect+: Offers integrated streaming services and cloud-based features for seamless connectivity.
  • Dynamic Glass Roof: Provides adjustable transparency for a customizable cabin ambiance.
