Introducing the 2025 Toyota Crown Signia: Hybrid AWD Luxury with 38 MPG Fuel Efficiency

Toyota has announced the release of the 2025 Toyota Crown Signia, a new hybrid luxury sedan that blends cutting-edge technology, premium features, and impressive fuel efficiency. Starting at $44,985, the Crown Signia is set to hit dealerships this summer, offering a compelling option for those seeking both performance and eco-friendliness.

Unmatched Performance and Efficiency

The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia is equipped with a robust hybrid powertrain that includes a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with two electric motors. This configuration delivers a combined output of 236 horsepower and achieves an outstanding fuel economy of 38 miles per gallon (mpg). The all-wheel-drive (AWD) system ensures superior traction and stability, making it a versatile choice for various driving conditions.

The Signature Hybrid

The Crown Signia is equipped with the Toyota Hybrid System (THS) as standard. This system’s primary components include a 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine, a hybrid transaxle, and a bi-polar Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery. The system utilizes a combination of a gas engine and electric motors to drive the vehicle’s wheels, balancing optimum power and fuel efficiency based on driving conditions.

The hybrid transaxle houses two electric motor-generators (MG1 and MG2), a single planetary gear, and a reduction gear to the final drive. MG1 serves as a generator, driven by the gasoline engine, providing a charge to the hybrid battery and acting as the engine’s starter motor. MG2 drives the front wheels alone or in tandem with the internal combustion engine and acts as a generator, recovering kinetic energy when coasting or braking and converting it to electrical charge for the battery. In certain conditions, MG2 can also power the vehicle in full electric (EV) mode at low speeds.

The Crown Signia’s 230.4V bi-polar NiMH traction battery, located beneath the rear seats, has a capacity of 5.0 Ahr. Its bi-polar construction helps reduce the overall battery size and weight while enhancing performance by minimizing internal electrical resistance.

The 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine uses variable valve timing for efficient Atkinson cycle operation. This provides a shorter compression stroke and longer power stroke, resulting in excellent fuel efficiency and low emissions. Paired with the Crown Signia’s standard electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission, it offers smooth, shift-free power delivery.

The Crown Signia features selectable NORMAL, ECO, and SPORT driving modes. SPORT mode sharpens throttle response for an enhanced driving experience, ECO mode maximizes efficiency, and NORMAL mode is ideal for everyday driving. An EV mode allows electric-only driving at low speeds for short distances. The Toyota Hybrid System delivers an EPA-estimated 39/37/38 MPG (city/highway/combined) and can accelerate from zero to 60 MPH in 7.1 seconds.

Two Grades, 100% Hybrid, 100% All-Wheel Drive

The 2025 Crown Signia brings a unique combination of style, comfort, and performance. Available in XLE and Limited grades, the Crown Signia offers five exterior color options, including Storm Cloud and Black as standard, and Bronze Age, Finish Line Red, and Oxygen White as premium paint options. Interior colors come in Black or Saddle Tan.

Luxurious Trims and Advanced Features

Both the XLE and Limited grades come equipped with standard features such as leather-trimmed seating, a leather-trimmed heated tilt/telescoping steering wheel with push-button controls, and the Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Additional features include a leather-trimmed shift knob, power windows with auto up/down function, a height-adjustable hands-free rear power liftgate, and a cargo area tonneau cover.

LED projector low and high beam headlights with Automatic High Beam function and LED taillights are standard across both grades. The Crown Signia also features heated power outside mirrors with turn signal and blind spot warning indicators, and a power-folding feature.

  • XLE Grade: Comes equipped with the 2.5-liter Toyota HEV system, Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive with three selectable drive modes, 19-inch machine-finished alloy wheels, heated and ventilated powered front seats, heated outboard seats in the rear, the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia System with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and a six-speaker audio system.

  • Limited Grade: Includes all XLE features plus dark gray metallic finished 21-inch wheels, LED headlights with auto-leveling feature, a fixed glass panoramic roof, 11-speaker JBL® Premium audio system, a digital rearview mirror, Digital Key capability, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The Limited grade also offers an Advanced Technology Package, which includes a Panoramic View Monitor, Lane Change Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Front Cross-Traffic Alert, Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking, and Outer Mirrors with Puddle Lights and Reverse Tilt-Down feature.

Elevated Handling with Standard AWD

The Toyota Crown Signia combines sedan-like driving comfort with SUV versatility. It has a 6.7-inch ground clearance, 74-inch overall width, and 112.2-inch wheelbase for a firmly planted, car-like feel. The 25.8-inch hip point provides a lifted seating position for easy ingress and egress and an elevated view of the road.

The Crown Signia's AWD system uses a separate rear-mounted electric motor (MGR) to power the rear wheels when needed, such as during cornering or in slippery conditions. The front and rear wheel driving force distribution is precisely controlled between 100:0 and 20:80, enhancing fuel efficiency and driving performance. MGR also acts as a generator, providing charge to the hybrid battery when coasting or braking.

The suspension system includes a MacPherson-type strut in the front and multilink rear suspension, with swing valve shock absorbers, soft suspension bushing, and a dynamic damper to reduce vibrations. Polyurethane-coated coil springs and high-damping structural adhesive ensure a smooth ride and minimal road-generated shake.

Safety & Convenience

The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0), a suite of active safety and driver assistance technologies that includes:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Proactive Driving Assist

Additional convenience features include Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Alert. The Limited grade offers an Advanced Technology Package, adding Front Cross-Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist.

The Crown Signia is equipped with eight airbags, including side curtain airbags. Toyota’s Star Safety System includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking System, and Smart Stop Technology.

The Limited grade offers advanced functionality with Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) when equipped with the Advanced Technology Package and an active Drive Connect subscription or trial. TJA helps ease stop-and-go traffic jams by controlling vehicle steering, braking, and acceleration at speeds under 25 mph, provided the driver’s eyes are on the road for hands-free operation. The required Drive Connect subscription for Traffic Jam Assist includes a 1-year trial on the Limited grade.
