2024 Nissan Qashqai Gets Google Infotainment and Stylish Makeover

The Nissan Qashqai, a trailblazer in the crossover segment, has received a substantial update to maintain its leadership position. With over 350,000 units sold in Europe since its third-generation launch, the Qashqai remains the benchmark. The latest iteration features bold exterior styling changes and significant updates to its infotainment and connected services. These enhancements aim to preserve the essence of the Qashqai while adding more intuitive and convenient technology, ensuring its continued status as the standard-bearer in its segment.

The latest iteration of the Nissan Qashqai introduces a refreshed exterior design, exuding a sharp and modern dynamism. Inspired by ancient Japanese armor scales, the front grille boasts dozens of high-gloss comma-shaped elements, creating a striking first impression. The new headlights feature adaptive high beam technology and daytime running lights that encircle the main lens, accentuating the Qashqai's presence on the road. At the rear, redesigned lighting elements and a reshaped bumper contribute to a sense of elevated precision.

In profile, the updated Qashqai showcases a new gloss black finish on the body beneath the doors and wheel arches, while a range of striking alloy wheel designs adds an extra dimension to its eye-catching aesthetic. Three new colors, including Pearl White, Pearl Black, and Deep Ocean, offer a fresh palette to choose from, with the option for two-tone combinations for a more distinctive look. These exterior updates enhance the Qashqai's visual appeal and reinforce its position as a leader in the crossover segment.

Introducing the N-Design grade to the Qashqai lineup, Nissan targets customers seeking a bolder expression of their crossover. This variant boasts unique aesthetic touches, distinguishing itself from the pack. Notably, the lower body portion below the doors and the wheel arches sport body-colored accents, enhancing its visual appeal. Complementing the distinctive exterior are all-new 20" alloy wheels, adding an extra dose of on-road presence. With the N-Design grade, Nissan offers a compelling option for drivers who crave a standout appearance in the crossover segment.

The interior of the revamped Nissan Qashqai receives a significant upgrade, further enhancing its appeal. For the upper grades like the N-Design and Tekna+, Alcantara® finds its way onto various surfaces including the dashboard, door inserts, armrests, and knee pads, adding a touch of luxury and sophistication. The center console and decoration insert feature new patterned materials, showcasing Japanese craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Seat trims have also been refreshed across the top three grades, with the top-spec model receiving black partially quilted premium leather for a truly upscale feel. The penultimate grade features quilted synthetic leather with "burnt umber" accents, adding a touch of warmth and style. The N-Design grade stands out with black leather seats featuring quilting and Alcantara® inserts, along with an embossed "Qashqai" wordmark.

To elevate the interior ambiance further, ambient lighting has been added to the N-Connecta, N-Design grades, and above, allowing for personalized lighting with red/green/blue LEDs. This lighting extends to the rear, ensuring all occupants can enjoy the effect. The ambient lighting settings can be easily controlled via the central infotainment screen.

The latest Nissan Qashqai sets a new benchmark in automotive technology, harnessing digital advancements to enhance the driving experience. A standout feature is the upgraded Around View Monitor (AVM), which now offers a 3D function, providing drivers with multiple external camera viewpoints for increased visibility and hazard detection. This system, coupled with Nissan's Moving Object Detection, ensures maximum confidence during parking maneuvers.

The "invisible hood view" feature utilizes machine learning to display the position of the front wheels, aiding precise maneuvering in tight spaces. Additionally, "Parking Spot Location Memory" saves frequently visited parking locations for automatic recognition and perfect parking each time. AVM technology also assists drivers in navigating safely from difficult exits onto roads with limited visibility, using a wide-angle front camera to project the view onto the central screen.

Visual changes on the TFT driver information screen include color-coded displays in different driving modes, enhancing driver awareness and engagement. The introduction of Google's built-in integration seamlessly integrates the Qashqai into customers' digital lives, further emphasizing Nissan's commitment to innovation and user experience.

The Nissan Qashqai's advanced driver assistance systems receive a significant upgrade, enhancing vigilance and intervention for a safer driving experience. The Autonomous Emergency Braking functions, including Front Emergency Brake, Pedestrian Front Emergency Brake, Front Emergency Brake Cyclist, and Intelligent Emergency Brake, have been recalibrated for improved risk detection and quicker reaction times in potential collision scenarios.

In emergency braking situations, the Emergency Stop Signal activates, flashing the rear brake lights to alert vehicles behind. The Emergency Lane Keep System now automatically engages upon starting the Qashqai, triggering Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention systems at speeds above 60km/h. This system provides haptic feedback through the steering wheel to warn the driver of proximity to lane boundaries.

The Intelligent Speed Assistance system, which helps drivers adapt to speed limits using camera and GPS data, has also been upgraded. It now features an audible alarm if the vehicle exceeds the speed limit, in addition to the existing visual alert.

A new addition is the Driver Assist Custom Mode, allowing drivers to tailor the level of assistance from various technologies quickly and easily. This customization can be done via a two-step process using the shortcut menu button on the steering wheel.

The Nissan Qashqai sets a new standard in connectivity with its integration of Google built-in, marking a milestone as the first vehicle in Nissan's European lineup to offer this suite of features. This seamless integration enhances the interaction between a driver's digital life and their vehicle, providing a more intuitive and convenient driving experience.

With Google Maps, drivers can access their favorite locations and points of interest, reducing reliance on a mobile phone and cellular network. Over-the-air updates ensure that map information remains current, keeping drivers informed and up-to-date.

Google Assistant enables hands-free control, allowing drivers to use voice commands to manage the vehicle's features, make phone calls, and navigate to destinations without taking their eyes off the road. The integration with Google Play opens up a world of apps, allowing drivers to listen to music, podcasts, and audiobooks directly from their vehicle.

Nissan Connected Services provide added peace of mind, with features such as remote locking and window control, theft monitoring, and immobilization in case of suspected theft. Customers with a data plan subscription can also enjoy Amazon's Alexa smart home system, further enhancing the connectivity and convenience of the Qashqai.

e-POWER is a unique electrified powertrain that has gained popularity since its launch in 2022. The petrol engine generates electricity used to drive the wheels, providing a simpler solution than traditional hybrids. This results in a drive experience that combines responsiveness, refinement, efficiency, and no compromise on driving pleasure.

The key to e-POWER's unique and innovative powertrain is that there is no gearbox, with the wheels being driven directly by the electric motor. This results in instant, high torque, and linear response, making it an EV-drive sensation without the need for charging. The advanced turbocharged 3-cylinder engine generates electricity, which is sent via the inverter to either the 140kW electric motor or the 1.8kwh battery. The engine works quietly in the background to provide the necessary charge to the battery and motor, programming it to provide electricity in relation to vehicle speed.

The e-POWER system can harness momentum during braking or coasting to send electricity back to the battery. Drivers can also select the B mode on the gear selector for higher levels of brake regeneration. Nissan's e-Pedal Step function allows drivers to drive using just the accelerator, achieving significant braking upon release of the gas pedal.

Since its launch on both the Qashqai and X-Trail in September 2022, Nissan has sold over 100,000 e-POWER equipped vehicles in Europe, with customers loving the electric drive feeling.

Nissan has unveiled the updated Qashqai, not just a cosmetic refresh but a strategic enhancement designed to solidify its position in the crossover segment.

The focus seems two-fold: retaining what customers love about the Qashqai while addressing areas for improvement. This includes introducing the new N-Design grade for a bolder look and integrating Google Assistant and Maps into the infotainment system for added convenience.

This emphasis on design and tech reflects the Qashqai's role in pioneering the crossover segment. It offered a unique blend of style, practicality, and user-friendly features. The refresh and the e-POWER electrified powertrain aim to maintain Nissan's edge in this competitive market.

Overall, the updated Qashqai appears to be a well-rounded evolution, catering to existing fans and potentially attracting new ones with its modern features and distinctive looks.
