Recall: The 2020-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500's exterior tailgate button can short-circuit.

 

General Motors is recalling 128,966 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500s from the 2020-2024 model years and 194,266 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500s due to a short circuit in the power tailgate release button. Chevrolet claims that water can enter the button's internals, causing a short circuit. The tailgate could lower itself while the vehicle is in park, and the owner may not notice until the vehicle is in motion. GM is aware of three minor property damage and one minor injury incidents related to the issue. Owners can manually latch the tailgate to keep it closed. The recall will begin on March 18, and owners will be asked to return their truck to a nearby dealer for a new, water-resistant exterior touchpad switch assembly. This update will be free of charge.
