BMW's 2025 Z4 M40i is now available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, paired with a 382-hp TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine, enhancing the open-top driving experience. The "Handschalter" model features a retuned chassis, mixed-size M light-alloy wheels, and special design features for both the exterior and interior.
The BMW Z4 M40i is a 3-liter engine with the latest M TwinPower Turbo technology, delivering impressive acceleration with 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The engine is equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox, a BMW modular transmission modified for the B58B30O1 engine's output, and M-specific components for the gear set and shafts. The outer shift mechanism, including the shift lever, guide, and connection to the transmission, is specially engineered for the BMW Z4 M40i, providing a mechanical feel that has been praised for its mechanical feel. The direct flow of power between engine and transmission, combined with the driver's central involvement in gear changes, reinforces the visceral bond between driver and vehicle. The manual-equipped BMW Z4 M40i can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.2 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph.
The Z4 M40i comes with standard equipment like variable sport steering, M Sport brakes, an M Sport differential, and adaptive M suspension. However, those opting for a manual gearbox benefit from unique chassis tuning to enhance the driving experience. This includes auxiliary springs, a reinforced anti-roll bar clamp, reconfigured mapping for rear damper and variable sport steering, and model-specific control logic in traction control and M Sport differential. The manual gearbox also includes staggered-size wheels and tires, allowing for optimal transfer of drive power to the road and predictable lateral force transmission in hard cornering.
The BMW Z4 M40i is available in a special edition with individual colors and trim. The "Handschalter" package includes a manual gearbox, refined chassis tuning, 19-inch and 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, and distinct design features such as Extended Shadowline black high-gloss exterior trim, badging, and flaps for airflow management. The package also includes a choice of metallic paints, including San Remo Green metallic and BMW Individual Frozen Deep Green metallic. Customers can also choose from five shades of Vernasca leather upholstery at no additional charge, including Cognac with unique black M piping and interior trim in black high-gloss. Black Alcantara combined with Black Vernasca leather with blue contrast stitching is also available as part of the package.
